  1. Thanks to y'all for coming out to Shakori Hills. It was a fun show on a beautiful afternoon. I really dug the "Green on Red" cover. Come on back next year!

  2. so the silverhaired girlfriend/gourds fanatic and i trekked the long journey from pittsboro to shakori (worth going to on its own if only for checking out the old and neohippies, good vibes and varied musical offerings - ok a plug for my sister's zydeco band, the unknown tongues..); rescued a gorgeous eastern box turtle from the middle of the road on the way; a relative of the famous triple t (ask if you're interested in terrapin lore..), guaranteeing good karma we thought...and so it came to pass. the gourds were a bit late but set up really fast on the big outdoor stage. there were a lot of geezers (like me) in the moderate crowd; folks who had pretty clearly come just for the gourds. after the sound check (and claude's accordian could've been turned up a few buenas notches; they jumped right in, and when i looked around after the first few tunes (we were kickin' up the dust, as Kevin had tol' us to do) the crowd had increased considerably and gotten enthusiastic; i think that stoked em up and they proceeded to put on a hell of a show (and i'm not quite a cherry). i definitely think kev needs to put out a dvd on his moves; i might just get lucky if i could figger out how to do all that (nevermind while playing and singing..). anyway, i don't know how often they do daytime festivals, but they more than pulled it off sunday - even did gin&juice with a segue into some good covers as an encore (and i'm told by the expert they hate doing that song..). damn i wish i hadn't forgotten the camera. ok, so we (she) went back after and talked with jimmie and claude; i was suprised at how accessible (and nice and normal - oops, sorry, guys) they are. i may have to add them to my own addictions...last thoughts - helen, eat your heart out, ya shoulda come! and oops, if this is a variant on gushing mail about shows from new converts,
xin loi, as theysay in vietnam.
