Orpheus On A Postcard: One Question with K. Russell

© Rhonda Peterson

TheGourdsNews: I noticed that Grave on the Green Hillside recently made it back into the set after a long absence...how did it happen?

Kevin Russell: Sitting on the couch one day it just popped in my head and I really like it now, musically, lyrically. It means something. Not sure if it's anything more than just being bored with other stuff. But I do like it, and Sweet Nutty, too. I am looking to create new moods and textures at the shows. Both of those songs are especially unique in that way.

  2. 'grave' resonates with me...it has a special place in my life. while i won't be planted in a grave when/if i die, it will be a part of the wake festivities. thanks! meg

  3. Is this a cover? I see that the Carter Family wrote the song, but the lyrics for the Gourd version are totally different.

  4. hmmmm. no,this is a kev russell original from the early 90's. could be that it shares the same title as a carter family song. where are you seeing it listed that way?

  5. No where....I googled the song title in order to find the lyrics. I had the song in my head for over a month but couldn't remember the title or recording from the Internet Archive. With such a unique song title, I figured it had to be the same song
