Alway fun to see the Gdz at Gruene Hall and last night was no exception. Perfect weather--a far contrast to that sub-Arctic January show. Everyone had his moments, but the night's winner seemed to be Max Johnston. His fiddle on Take Me Back to Tulsa was awesome and is already the stuff of legend. No doubt they are already talking about it in hushed and reverential tones in Nepal and Burundi and the other corners of the earth. That's how good it was. You could have a 2010 BoB with just that one song from last night and it would be complete. If I were any of the other guys I might have just put my instrument down after that to walk off the stage and watch Max. To their credit they stayed. Glad they did. A fine summertime performance with a large-though-somewhat-mellow crowd. The band's appeal cuts across all the generations. Living is easy, the cotton is high, your ma is good-looking, and the oyster's illegal. No Dmimtri Medvedev sightings (coward), though some girls who could have been sexy Russian spies. Good times, good times.
