Gourds need to stop playing at Granada. No one could hear what the hey' they were saying between songs. They thought we were being rude/ignorant not getting their jokes. Tired of that place, play at Lee Harvey's, Poor Davids, or a grade school cafetorium. It would be better than the sound system at Granada Theater.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a show at Poor David's would be a riot. The good kind. To better venues in the future!
ReplyDeleteIt was possibly the worst Gourds I've seen. No encore. Bummer.
ReplyDeleteJimmy's line "it's good to be here with you fine folks at this Gourds show" was a hoot.
ben, just curious...other than not playing an encore, what made it the worst gourds you've seen? anything in particular?
ReplyDeleteThe crowd wasn't into it, and was small.
ReplyDeleteIt was still a good show, but didn't have the normal energy.
Maybe they were already in a beeblefest mindset.
The Sons of Hermann Hall is still there.
ReplyDeleteSons of Hermann is the perfect venue for them. No opener.
ReplyDeleteI would agree that the sound system was poor..we could NOT understand anything being said between songs..but I found their energy to be as infectious as ever. And yes, while the lack of encore was a let down, I have to say that overall I enjoyed the show immensely!
ReplyDeleteit was the first time I heard "Weather Woman" live. And that Doug Sahm thing was pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteLack of encore wasn't the reason it was a bad show, it was the final result of the falling dominoes that began about 10 minutes into the show when the first request for Gin n Juice went out from some bozo. Continued with broken mics all night long, and concluded with crowd not singing along with any of the songs. Doug Sahm thing was awesome, I forgot about that.
