  1. How cool that the Gourds could unleash a flurry of B-sides and seldom-played songs and still put on a great show that had everyone smiling. Save for maybe Jorge, Red Letter Day and Tex-Mex Mile, there weren't a lot of heavy rotation songs in the first two-thirds of the set. Hearing Receipts and Fever for my first time was a definite highlight, as well as the return of Ladies' Choice, Kicks In The Sun, Escalade and Steeple. The end of Escalade was just over the top greatness, and Steeple had one of those beautiful, you-could-hear-a-pin-drop moments.

After out palettes had been cleansed, the end of set just burned with a series of five rockers that filled up the dance area. And the encore was about as perfect as you can get: a pair of acoustic Jimmy songs (and Layin' Around The House, no less) followed by a picture-perfect Lament. The Darling Cory was about as nice a version as I've seen, and Waxy's Dargle left everyone gleeful.

It's good to have the Threadgill's shows back.

  3. right at the end of the receipts and fevers video, a woman in the front row turns to someone next to her and says: "I have it on cassette, that's how fucking old that is". totally hilarious...and so true.
