  1. Kinda nice to see the gourds out of their element at these festivals. Young couple next to me didn't know which band was up next and said they'd move on if they weren't any good. They ended up staying.

Good visuals with tall buildings on both sides of the stage, the Capitol looming in the background and the entire bridge filled with people and vendors. Kevin noted how they were playing the "Ann Richards Bridge over Lady Bird Lake." Might as well have been the Molly Ivins stage.

The first couple of bats trickled out from under the bridge during the opener, and while Jimmy was missing from Country Love, Kev was vamping on "Wake up, Mexican Free-Tailed Bats." Kev also did a couple of quick versions of "BatFest" to the Batman theme between songs.

On the last note of Hellhounds, several members of the group jumped up in the air, and Kevin quipped that Claude was the David Lee Roth of the accordion.

The crowd up front was all into the show, but I'm not sure how far back that extended. it was a cluster-f getting in, with long, long lines for tickets right before showtime.

  2. they were "out of their element"? people "didn't know which band was up next"? I think that might help explain why there's a youtube video from last night that's titled "the gourds" but actually shows the wailers. funny.
